Overview

Some surahs begin with disconnected letters (muqatta'at) such as الم or ق. Their meaning is unknown in classical scholarship; Code 19 research treats them as keys to letter counts.

Why it is investigated

Every initial-letter claim builds on this list of surahs and letters.

Original proposed pattern

29 surahs are prefixed with Quranic initials, made of 14 different Arabic letters.

“29 suras are prefixed with 14 different sets of "Quranic Initials" … 14 different Arabic letters, form 14 different sets.” — Rashad Khalifa

Expected result

29

Counting methodology

Count the surahs whose opening verse matches the traditional list of initials, after checking each one against the installed text. The letters used are listed separately.

Methodology sensitivity

Low: the list of initialled surahs is standard. Surah 42 has initials across two verses (حم / عسق).

Required dataset

QUL Arabic text (Uthmani or Imlaei simple)

Historical and interpretive context

The meaning of the initials is unknown in classical scholarship; the count of 29 is not disputed, but what it signifies is.

A number divisible by 19 is an arithmetic fact about a count. It is not, by itself, theological proof.
