Word frequencies

Disputed countingInterpretive conclusion disputedSource-verified

Overview

A well-known word-frequency claim. Results depend heavily on how attached forms (بالله، لله) are matched and on excluding 9:128–129.

Why it is investigated

It is the headline word-frequency claim of Khalifa's translation.

Original proposed pattern

Occurrences of الله = 2,698 = 19 × 142

“The total occurrence of the word "God" is 2698, or 19x142.” — Rashad Khalifa

Expected result

2,698

Counting methodology

Letter-sequence (substring) match: find the letters الله anywhere in the text, including inside longer words such as بالله، لله or اللهم — not a whole-word count — with the disputed verses 9:128–129 excluded.

Methodology sensitivity

Very sensitive: depends on matching attached forms (بالله، لله، فالله), excluding اللهم, and on removing 9:128–129. Khalifa states the count was 2699 before that removal.

Required dataset

Historical and interpretive context

The 2698 total requires the disputed exclusion of 9:128–129; see the 9:128–129 module.

A number divisible by 19 is an arithmetic fact about a count. It is not, by itself, theological proof.
